FAQs
Questions families ask us.
If something here does not cover what you need, call us. No question is too small, and there is never any cost to ask.
Getting started
What to do first, and how to begin.
Someone has died. What do I do first?
Call us on 1800 123 456 whenever you are ready — we answer 24 hours a day. We will talk you through what needs to happen next and arrange to bring your loved one into our care.
There is no rush to make decisions about the service itself. The first step is simply to let us take care of the immediate arrangements so you have time.
Should we choose cremation or burial?
That is entirely your family’s decision, and often it comes down to what your loved one would have wanted, your beliefs, and cost. Cremation is generally the less expensive option because it does not involve purchasing a burial plot.
We support both, and we are happy to talk through what each one involves without any pressure either way.
Do you cover my area?
We arrange funerals for families across Australia, in capital cities and regional areas alike. Call us with your location and we will confirm what we can offer near you.
Practical questions
Timing, seeing your loved one, and what to expect.
How soon does the funeral need to happen?
There is usually less urgency than families expect. Once your loved one is in our care, you generally have time to think, to wait for relatives to travel, and to make decisions properly rather than in the first twenty-four hours.
Most funerals take place within one to two weeks, but that is convention rather than a deadline. Tell us what your family needs and we will work to it.
Can we see our loved one before the funeral?
In most cases yes, and we can arrange a private viewing for whoever in your family would like one. Some people find it helps; others would rather remember someone as they were. Both are completely normal, and nobody in your family has to make the same choice as anyone else.
There are occasionally medical or legal reasons a viewing is not possible. If that applies we will tell you honestly and explain why.
Costs and pricing
What things cost and what is included.
How much does a funeral cost?
It depends on the type of service you choose. Our packages start from $2,995 for a simple cremation and are listed in full on our packages page, with everything each one includes. The price we quote is the price you pay — there are no hidden fees added later.
How much does a burial cost?
Burial costs more than cremation, and the difference is almost entirely the grave itself. Cemeteries set their own prices, and they vary widely depending on the location and the type of plot — a grave in a metropolitan cemetery can cost several times what the same plot costs in a regional one.
Because of that, we quote burials individually rather than listing a single price. Call us with the cemetery or the suburb you have in mind and we will give you a full figure covering both our services and the cemetery’s fees.
Cremation
Services, timing and ashes.
Can we still have a service if we choose cremation?
Yes. Choosing cremation does not mean going without a service. You can hold a full service beforehand with your loved one present, or have the cremation take place quietly first and hold a memorial afterwards — which gives family time to travel and takes the pressure off arranging things quickly.
Some families choose no service at all. That is a perfectly valid choice too.
How long until we receive the ashes?
Usually within one to two weeks. The exact timing depends on how quickly the required paperwork is completed and how busy the crematorium is, and we will give you a clearer date once arrangements are underway.
We will let you know as soon as the ashes are ready, and you can collect them from us or we can arrange delivery to you.
What can we do with the ashes?
Whatever feels right for your family. Common choices are keeping them at home in an urn, interring them in a memorial garden or cemetery, scattering them somewhere meaningful, or dividing them between family members.
Rules about scattering vary depending on where you are and who owns the land, so it is worth checking before you plan anything at a specific place. We can point you in the right direction.
Burial
Cemeteries, graves and memorials.
Can we choose the cemetery?
Yes. If your family has a particular cemetery in mind — perhaps one where relatives are already buried, or one close to home — tell us and we will make the arrangements there.
If you are not sure, we can suggest cemeteries in your area and explain what each one costs and what it offers, so you can compare before deciding.
Do we own the grave?
Not quite. What you buy from a cemetery is called a right of interment — the right to be buried in that plot and to decide who else may be. The cemetery still owns the land.
Some rights of interment last indefinitely, others are granted for a set term that can usually be renewed. Which applies depends on the cemetery and the state you are in, so it is worth asking before you buy. We will confirm the details with the cemetery as part of arranging things.
When can we add a headstone or memorial?
Usually a few months after the burial. The ground needs time to settle before a memorial can be placed safely, and most cemeteries set their own waiting period and rules about size, materials and lettering.
A headstone is a separate cost from the funeral and is not included in our packages. There is no rush to decide — many families take months to choose, and the grave can be marked in the meantime.
Still not sure about something?
Ask us directly. We answer 24 hours a day, and you are under no obligation to arrange anything with us afterwards.
